Labour to renegotiate national minimum wage starting July 2026
Organized labour (NLC and TUC) announces plans to commence renegotiation of national minimum wage in July 2026. Workers' representatives made this declaration at a joint press conference in Geneva, Switzerland, acknowledging that the current N70,000 minimum wage is insufficient to meet basic needs of Nigerian workers.
Labour leaders urged state governors not to unilaterally propose new wage figures, emphasizing proper negotiation processes must be followed. The unions also called on government to settle all outstanding gratuity arrears as part of the forthcoming wage review.
With inflation continuing to erode purchasing power, this renegotiation affects millions of Nigerian workers nationwide. The unions remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders to secure improved welfare for workers during the upcoming review process.
