Lagos approves single academic calendar for all schools starting Sept 14, 2026
Lagos State Govt has approved a harmonised academic calendar for all public and private primary/secondary schools for the 2026/2027 session, ending separate schedules. Commissioner Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun announced via Lagos Govt X on Thursday that the calendar was finalised after two stakeholders' meetings via OEQA.
The 2026/2027 session starts Monday Sept 14, 2026 after Staff PD on Sept 10-11. First term runs to Dec 18 (64 days), followed by vacation Dec 21-Jan 8. Second term: Jan 11-April 16 (61 days). Third term: May 3-July 30 (57 days), with long vacation from Aug 2. Mid-term break: Nov 2-6 (5 days); inter-term holiday: April 19-30 (10 days). Total 182 instructional days. Schools with international curricula must apply for flexibility by Aug 21, 2026.
This ends scheduling chaos for families with kids in different schools, making childcare, family planning and exam coordination easier.
