The Transmission Company of Nigeria confirmed a major power disruption across Lagos corridor following a voltage fluctuation on the national grid at 8:19 a.m. Thursday. The surge triggered generator shutdowns and tripped transmission lines including the Benin-Egbin 330kV line, causing widespread electricity interruption for residents and businesses in Lagos and surrounding areas.

Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe convened an emergency meeting with TCN and Nigerian Independent System Operator officials to coordinate restoration efforts. Engineers from TCN's Benin and Omotoso subregions are actively repairing the Benin-Omotoso 330kV transmission line while the Benin-Egbin line has already been restored and is transmitting bulk electricity.

TCN expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured that the Ministry of Power and relevant agencies are working to normalize bulk electricity transmission as quickly as possible. Residents should expect intermittent supply until full restoration is achieved and consider backup power solutions for essential needs during this period.
