Lagos Governor Calls National Unity Amid Security Crisis
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu and security agencies amid recent security attacks and abductions. In a statement issued Saturday, the governor said recent incidents had heightened public concerns but emphasized that national unity is critical to overcoming criminal threats.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that perpetrators target citizens regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations, saying "forces of evil do not ask for our political affiliation before they kill, maim and destroy." He called for cooperation between government, security agencies, and local communities, urging citizens to remain vigilant and provide intelligence to help prevent attacks.
The governor specifically mentioned the tragic abduction of teachers and students from Orire Local Government Area in Oyo State on May 15, and the June 3 abduction of Busayo Adegoke-John-Paul and her twin sons in Ibadan. "Every life lost is a tragedy," he said, calling for prayers and support for victims and security personnel risking their lives daily.
The statement comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity nationwide, with the governor urging Nigerians to respond with courage and resilience rather than fear and division.
