Hamzat expressed his commitment to building on the progress of Lagos State. Posting on X, he wrote: “Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my governor, my brother and my friend, H.E. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly. “I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus, and a clear sense of purpose.” Sanwo-Olu had endorsed Hamzat as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election in the state. The governor announced the endorsement after a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina. The deputy governor had officially declared his intention to run for the governorship seat before members of the State Executive Council and key party leaders.
