Lamine Yamal explains Thierry Henry celebration after Spain's win over Croatia

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal replicated Thierry Henry’s iconic corner‑flag celebration after scoring his second goal in Spain’s 4‑1 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Speaking in his post‑match interview, Yamal said he performed the celebration because he views the French striker as a major role model and personal reference, telling Fabrizio Romano, "Thierry Henry is a reference. He has this legendary celebration, and I wanted to do it." The 19‑year‑old’s brace helped Spain secure the win, continuing his impressive form for both club and country and keeping him among the top favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Yamal’s tribute highlights how football icons shape the next generation’s expression on the pitch, showing that young stars still look to legends for inspiration. For Nigerian fans watching the rising talent, it’s a reminder that celebrating heritage and idols can be part of the game’s joy.
