Lawyer accuses Okonkwo of trading brain for sharp tongue over Atiku-Amaechi ticket
Human rights lawyer Maduabuchi Idam accused ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo of exchanging his "brain for a sharp tongue" after Okonkwo rejected the Atiku-Amaechi presidential ticket because running mate Rotimi Amaechi is from South South rather than Southeast. Idam stated this reacting to Okonkwo's vow not to campaign for Atiku if the running mate isn't from the Southeast.
Idam suggested Okonkwo may have personally wanted to be Atiku's running mate, calling it a "wild ambition" driven by greed that harmed his public image. He alleged Okonkwo's fallout with Peter Obi stemmed from not getting a desired duplex, though he noted uncertainty about this claim. Idam proposed Okonkwo might be better suited for APC where his "disposition may find a more comfortable home."
This exposes opposition fragility as parties negotiate 2027 tickets. The ADC struggles balancing regional zoning demands with candidate selection, risking unity before elections. For citizens, it reveals how personal ambitions and regional politics can override party loyalty - vital intelligence for assessing opposition strength and potential realignments.
Monitor whether Okonkwo follows through on refusing to campaign for Atiku-Amaechi and if he joins APC as predicted. His decision could indicate whether regional grievances will fracture opposition coalitions or get resolved through negotiation ahead of 2027.
