Lebara Nigeria launches agent portal ahead of 2026 network rollout
Lebara Nigeria has launched an Agent Registration Portal (ARP) to onboard retailers and distributors nationwide ahead of its delayed commercial launch now scheduled for 2026. The MVNO, licensed by the Nigerian Communications Commission, initially planned to go live in Q3 2025 but is using the extra time to build distribution capacity through digital onboarding.
The ARP allows small retailers, independent distributors, and SIM vendors to register online via Lebara's website. Approved partners become authorized Point-of-Sale outlets selling SIM starter packs, data bundles, and vouchers. The portal requires applicants to submit their National Identification Number (NIN), valid government ID, Tax Identification Number (TIN), and address details. Complete applications are processed within 30 minutes, with confirmation sent by email.
Mary O. Akin-Adesokan, Lebara's Chief Operating Officer, says the portal is designed to scale retail presence while maintaining strict compliance standards required in Nigeria's tightly regulated telecom environment. The company is running a national onboarding campaign from January to March 2026, targeting both small-scale agents and large distributors.
Lebara's market proposition focuses on "selling minutes, not airtime"—offering usage-based voice bundles and tailored data packages as a challenger brand. The MVNO will lease capacity from existing networks including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile rather than building its own infrastructure. Earlier, Lebara launched a Number Reservation Portal allowing users to secure memorable or culturally significant phone numbers ahead of the network going live, signaling readiness for interconnectivity with major operators.
As an MVNO entering Nigeria's competitive telecom market, will Lebara's digital-first approach to retail distribution give it an edge over existing operators, or will the delayed launch allow competitors to further consolidate their market position?
