Lobi Stars to Rebuild Squad After Failed NPFL Promotion Bid
Lobi Stars Chairman Terver Ikya plans to completely overhaul the squad for the 2026/27 NNL season after failing to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League this year. The Pride of Makurdi will limit their squad to 30 players plus five promoted from the youth team (U-19), totaling 35 players maximum.
All contracts signed before the current board took over will be terminated, Ikya confirmed. "We will not attend to players sent by anybody. I want to take my fate in my hands so that whatever the outcome, I would take the responsibility," he told Voicesports. This complete restructuring aims to build a stronger team capable of achieving promotion in the upcoming season.
The decision represents a significant shift for the club, which will need to balance immediate competitiveness with long-term development through youth integration. Fans should expect substantial changes to the playing roster for the upcoming campaign.
