Lookman not chasing AFCON MVP, top scorer awards—focus is Super Eagles title
Ademola Lookman says he's not thinking about winning the AFCON 2025 MVP or top scorer awards, despite emerging as a leading candidate for both. The 28-year-old winger has three goals and five assists in three matches for Nigeria in Morocco, making him the only player with more goal involvements in the tournament. Only Morocco's Brahim Diaz (four goals) has scored more than Lookman.
Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals after a 4-0 win against Mozambique, where Lookman earned Man of the Match. He was named in the Group Stage Best XI but insists his focus remains solely on team success.
"Personally I'm just thinking about the team, now we are in the quarter-finals our next opponent is going to be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team so that's what I care about," Lookman said after the Mozambique victory.
With the Super Eagles now in knockout stage, the question is: will Nigeria's collective focus and Lookman's current form be enough to claim the continental title?
