Lookman scores vs Man Utd, reveals Simeone's pre-substitution instructions
Lookman ended his six-match goal drought by scoring Atletico Madrid's second goal in their 2-0 Champions League victory over Manchester United on Tuesday, October 12, 2026. The Nigerian international came off the bench to net the goal that secured the win for Diego Simeone's side.
After the match, Lookman revealed to CBS Sports Golazo exactly what Simeone told him before his substitution: "Just bring the energy, try to help the team, defensively of course and offensively when I get the chance to do so." The forward said he focused on executing those instructions, contributing both defensively and offensively when opportunities arose.
This goal was particularly significant for Lookman, who had not scored in his previous six matches across all competitions. The victory keeps Atletico Madrid competitive in their Champions League group stage, with their next fixture being a LaLiga match against Espanyol scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
For Nigerian fans watching their international star perform at Europe's highest level, Lookman's contribution highlights his growing importance to Atletico Madrid despite his recent goal drought. His ability to impact the game immediately off the bench demonstrates the trust Simeone places in him as a squad player.
Will this goal mark the start of a sustained scoring run for Lookman, and how will he build on this performance in upcoming LaLiga and Champions League fixtures?
