LPPC shortlists 89 candidates for 2026 Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank
The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 89 candidates for the final stage of the 2026 Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) conferment exercise, comprising 77 advocates and 12 academics. Notable names include former NBA spokesperson Habeeb Akorede Lawal, former NBA Lagos chair Alex Mouka, and Aisha Ado Abdullahi of the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce Dispute Resolution Centre. The shortlist followed stages such as advocacy filtrations, academic pre‑qualification, independent appeals hearing, and law office inspection.
This matters because the SAN rank is Nigeria’s highest legal distinction, awarded yearly to lawyers and academics who have excelled in practice, scholarship and profession development. Publishing the shortlist invites public scrutiny—anyone may submit comments on a candidate’s integrity, reputation and competence before the final interview. The deadline for comments is 4:00 p.m. on July 15, 2026, with submissions requiring a verifying affidavit sworn before a Superior Court of Record or Notary Public, plus 20 copies, delivered to the LPPC Secretary’s office or sent to the email address provided in the press release.
Keep in mind that being shortlisted does not guarantee the SAN title; candidates must still clear the final interview before successful recipients are announced. If you are a legal practitioner or member of the public with relevant information, ensure your complaint reaches the LPPC by the July 15 deadline to be considered in the selection process.
