Lula says Maduro should face trial in Venezuela, not abroad
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated that ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro should be tried in Venezuela, not overseas. Lula made this comment during an interview at India's AI summit, arguing that re-establishing democracy in Venezuela is paramount. He criticized the US capture of Maduro earlier this year, calling it unacceptable for one head of state to be captured by another. Lula also proposed that Brazilian citizens accused of crimes in the US should face trial in Brazil, intending to present this proposal to US President Donald Trump. The statement comes as Brazil, Venezuela's southern neighbor, seeks diplomatic influence in South America.
