Maktown Flyers made history Sunday with their first-ever Basketball Africa League victory, defeating JCA Kings 76-68 in the Sahara Conference opener. Nigerian basketball promoter Igoche Mark called the win 'historic and symbolic,' praising the team's composure, discipline and collective determination.

The Flyers showcased remarkable shooting, with 21 of their first 22 points coming from beyond the arc. Jawad Adekoya led scoring with 20 points, while Tyrell Corbin, Hassan Drame and Ogbodeje Abah each contributed 13 points.

'This was more than a debut win,' Mark stated. 'This was Maktown Flyers announcing to the BAL that Nigeria has arrived again.' He urged the team to maintain the 'fear of victory' that separates one-time winners from dynasties.

The victory places Nigeria firmly in early contention in the Sahara Conference and reinforces the need for sustained investment in basketball development nationwide. With Abuja to Lagos, Kano to Port Harcourt rallying behind them, the Flyers carry Nigeria's flag on the continental stage.
