The management of Obafemi Awolowo University declared Wednesday, January 14, and Thursday, January 15, 2026, as lecture-free days specifically for newly admitted students. This directive was issued in a special release signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, F.K.A. Bakare. The decision was taken to facilitate the smooth running of the university's 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony.

The primary purpose of these lecture-free days was to allow fresh students ample time to complete their document verification and clearance processes at their respective faculties. The management wanted to ensure that no student was hindered by academic schedules while trying to finalize their registration ahead of the major ceremony. This break provided a necessary window for the "freshers" to sort out administrative bottlenecks.

In the same release, the university management issued a stern warning regarding school fees. They directed all fresh students to ensure that their prescribed fees were paid before the matriculation day. The statement clarified that any student who failed to pay their fees might not be allowed to participate in the ceremony, making the lecture-free window a crucial time for students to regularize their financial standing with the institution.
