Melaye slams Tinubu for ignoring insecurity in Independence Day address
Senator Dino Melaye accused President Bola Tinubu of neglecting the country’s worsening security crisis in his Independence Day address, claiming the president mentioned insecurity only once during the broadcast. Melaye, posting on his X handle on Friday, said more than 1,000 Nigerians are currently held by terrorists in forests nationwide and that farmers cannot access their farmlands due to incessant attacks.
He argued that the issue deserved greater emphasis in the national speech, describing daily killings of innocent souls as a pity and a shame. DAILY POST notes that security challenges have persisted under Tinubu’s administration, with banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes reported across the country. On Independence Day itself, bandits reportedly attacked residents in Kaduna State, killing one person and abducting several others.
The allegations highlight a growing disconnect between government communication and citizens’ security realities. As abductions and farm invasions continue, many Nigerians question whether official responses match the scale of the threat. Will you demand stronger security measures from your representatives, support community-based vigilance efforts, or consider relocation if your area remains unsafe?
