Nollywood star Mercy Johnson has threatened legal action against online trolls and platforms spreading fake news about her family. This comes after the release of TikTok content creator Eedie Bliss, who alleged that Mercy Johnson's husband bought a mansion for a mistress. Bliss was released from detention on January 17, 2026, following public outcry.

In a video posted to her Instagram on Monday, January 19, Mercy Johnson explained she is dropping the charges against Bliss out of respect for public opinion. However, she issued a clear warning that this marks the end of tolerance for defamation.

She stated: "It's no longer going to be business as usual for online trolls and platforms sharing false rumours against me and my family." She added that she has plans for 2026 and making trouble and court cases will be part of them because some people won't leave her family alone.

The dispute highlights the growing tension between Nigerian celebrities and online content creators. With platforms like TikTok and Instagram enabling rapid spread of allegations, public figures are increasingly resorting to legal threats. For Mercy Johnson, this is a strategic shift from defensive reaction to proactive legal enforcement.
