Mexico's El Mencho reportedly killed in military raid
Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho' and leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was reportedly killed during a military operation on Sunday, according to local media outlets El Universal and Reforma. Televisa also reported the death. However, no official confirmation has been issued by the Mexican government as of press time. The US had placed a $15 million bounty on Oseguera, reflecting his status as one of the most sought-after criminals. If confirmed, his death would represent a major blow to organized crime in Mexico, comparable to the arrests of El Chapo and Zambada. Ahead of the reports, violence erupted in Jalisco and Michoacán, with armed groups setting vehicles ablaze and blocking roads to disrupt security operations. The CJNG, founded in 2009, is one of Mexico's most violent cartels, trafficking cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl into the US and designated a terrorist organization by US authorities.
