Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal called for increased investment in Nigeria's green economy on Monday, emphasizing that stronger environmental governance and climate action are critical to the country's long-term development. He made the call ahead of the Nigeria Environmental Summit Day 2026, where policymakers, investors, and stakeholders will discuss climate action and sustainable development.

"Climate action should not be viewed solely as an environmental issue but also as an economic opportunity capable of creating jobs and attracting investment," Mr. Lawal stated at the Abuja briefing. The summit is expected to focus on mobilizing financing for environmental initiatives and aligning policy, finance, and innovation toward sustainable development.

The minister also launched the Annual National Tree Planting Campaign to promote environmental restoration and address climate change impacts. He highlighted that achieving Nigeria's environmental goals requires sustained collaboration between government institutions, development partners, and the private sector to accelerate the country's transition to a low-carbon economy.

How might this shift toward green economy impact your business or investment strategy, and what opportunities exist in Nigeria's emerging environmental sector?
