Moniepoint acquires Orda to embed payments into restaurant operations
Moniepoint, Nigeria's Visa-backed fintech unicorn, has acquired Orda, a cloud-based restaurant management platform, to embed payments directly into restaurant operations. The acquisition deepens Moniepoint's strategy to evolve from payments processing into a full-stack operating system for African businesses. Orda will be rebranded Moniebook for Restaurants and integrated into Moniepoint's business management platform, with full integration expected in coming months. The deal covers only Nigeria, leaving Kenyan operations potentially available for future consolidation. About 25 Orda team members join Moniepoint, while the company's $4.5 million seed funding in 2022 positions it well for scaling. Nigeria's food service market is projected to reach $12.37 billion in 2026, with restaurants already contributing ₦8 billion daily in Moniepoint transactions. Orda currently powers operations for major chains like Domino's and Cold Stone Creamery, managing 1,075+ restaurants and 31,600+ menu items. The integration aims to collapse fragmented sales and payment workflows into a single system, automatically linking transactions to management dashboards. Existing Orda customers will see gradual interface changes to Moniepoint's blue branding while maintaining support. Delivery platform integrations with Chowdeck and Glovo are also planned to streamline multi-channel orders. This acquisition represents a strategic shift toward embedded payments, making switching providers harder as Moniepoint builds its operating system for African businesses.
