Morrison hails Bassey's defending after Fulham's 1-1 draw with Man United
Clinton Morrison hailed Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey for his brilliant defending after Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Craven Cottage on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Bassey regained possession from Matheus Cunha, advanced beyond the penalty area and shot; the effort was deflected by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens onto Lisandro Martinez, bouncing into the net for Fulham’s opener. United equalized late through a strike from Cunha, leaving the match level.
Morrison, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, praised Bassey’s defensive awareness and ability to drive forward, saying, “That sums Man United up. Brilliant defending from Bassey, Cunha not strong enough, and Bassey drives forward.” He criticized United’s goalkeeper and defender for mishandling the rebound, calling their performance substandard.
Bassey, who will join the Super Eagles squad for AFCON qualifying matches against Mozambique and Guinea‑Bissau, regretted that Fulham could not hold the lead at home. His performance underscores his growing influence both at club level and for Nigeria’s national team.
Will Bassey’s consistent defensive contributions earn him a regular starting spot for the Super Eagles in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, and can Fulham build on his form to challenge for a higher Premier League finish?
