Nineteen prospective National Youth Service Corps members were kidnapped early Thursday while traveling from Ibadan to Abia State. Their mother, Alimot Akande, said the youths boarded a commercial bus at the Sango area in Ibadan, stopped over in Onitsha around 10 p.m. Wednesday, and sent a brief message reading 'kidnappers!' before the attack between Anambra and Abia States. Akande has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to rescue her daughter and the others unhurt.

This mass abduction of young Nigerians about to begin national service underscores the growing insecurity on major transport corridors, especially the Onitsha-Abia route. It places immense anguish on families, raises questions about the safety of NYSC deployment, and increases pressure on authorities to act swiftly. The incident adds to a string of kidnappings targeting travelers and students across the region.

If you have any information about the abductees or the attackers, report it to the police immediately. Avoid unnecessary travel on the Onitsha-Abia highway until security improves, and consider sharing verified updates only from credible sources to prevent misinformation. Will you adjust your travel plans or demand stronger protection for citizens on Nigeria's highways?
