MTN Controls Over Half of Nigeria's Fibre Broadband Market in Q2 2026
MTN Nigeria held 176,468 fibre-to-the-x (FTTX) subscriptions in the second quarter of 2026, representing 55.2% of the 319,735 subscriptions recorded nationwide, according to data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission. Its nearest rival, FiberOne Broadband, had 56,486 subscriptions (17.7%), followed by ipNX Nigeria with 14,698, Broadbased Communication with 10,761 and Ngcom with 5,958. The top two operators together control about 73% of the market, leaving dozens of smaller providers with relatively few subscribers.
This dominance shows how quickly MTN has leveraged its telecoms base to capture the fibre broadband segment, even as the total deployed fibre network stands at 101,148.36 kilometres across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT. However, nearly one‑fifth of that infrastructure—18,559.83 km—is concentrated in Lagos and Abuja, meaning rural and semi‑urban areas still lag behind in fibre reach.
