MURIC Asks Muslims to Report Suspicious Donations, Movements
MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Isiaq Akintola, called on Islamic organisations and individuals across Nigeria to report any suspicious donations or strange movements in their surroundings to security agencies immediately. The appeal follows a recent terror alert issued by the Department of State Service and the Nigeria Police Force warning of planned attacks by terrorists. Akintola urged Muslims to be wary of unknown faces at gatherings, prohibit people carrying bags or backpacks from entering mosque premises, and not allow sleep‑overs in mosques. He also instructed that any bag or luggage found inside or around a mosque should be disposed of right away and the person reported to the police, even if that person prays with the congregation.
This guidance matters because it directly addresses a credible security threat that could target places of worship and public spaces, putting worshippers and nearby residents at risk. By heightening vigilance in mosques, the initiative aims to prevent potential attacks and protect the broader community.
What should you do? If you notice unfamiliar individuals, unattended bags, or suspicious donations linked to Islamic organisations, report them to the police promptly. Avoid allowing unknown persons with bags into mosque premises, refuse sleep‑overs, and promptly dispose of any luggage found on mosque grounds. Staying alert and following these steps can help thwart attacks and keep your neighborhood safe.
