NAFDAC seizes two Lagos oil tankers carrying diesel instead of vegetable oil
NAFDAC seized two tankers designated for edible vegetable oil transport after finding them carrying Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) in Lagos today. The seizure occurred during enforcement operations, just three months after NAFDAC warned transporters against using same tankers for both petroleum and edible products, calling it a serious public health threat.
According to NAFDAC's Director of Investigation Martins Iluyomade, investigations showed the vehicles were loaded with diesel despite being exclusively marked for vegetable oil. The tanker manager claimed ignorance of the color-coding system. Both tankers and drivers are in custody as investigations continue to determine violation extent and ensure regulatory action.
Iluyomade stressed that vegetable oil tankers must never convey petroleum products due to contamination risks endangering consumers. He reiterated NAFDAC's commitment to enforcing food safety standards nationwide, urging strict compliance with regulations requiring dedicated tankers for edible oil per international best practices.
