NANS has dissociated itself from Sowore's Take It Back Movement today, June 5, 2026, accusing the group of pursuing political objectives under the guise of activism. President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez stated NANS won't participate in any protest activities organized by the movement, maintaining their advocacy approach differs significantly. The Olusegun Agagu University student dismissed reports questioning his status as false, criticizing media outlets for not verifying facts before publication. Akinteye alleged the movement increasingly blurs lines between activism, journalism, and partisan politics, suggesting it's perceived more as a political platform than independent advocacy. NANS clarified it won't collaborate with Sowore on protests regarding recent student abductions, instead commending organized labor and education stakeholders like NLC and NUT for advocacy efforts. The association emphasized commitment to lawful means and national peace while demanding authorities protect educational institutions and ensure safe return of abducted students.
