The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the Federal Government 14 days to address welfare demands or face a nationwide strike, following their 46th Annual General Meeting in Calabar, Cross River State. NARD President Dr Emmanuel Ogar announced the ultimatum after citing unresolved issues including salaries, promotions, allowances, heavy workload, personnel shortages and general welfare, despite multiple meetings and government assurances.

The doctors specifically noted that a recent review of remuneration structures confirmed the current framework no longer reflects economic realities, yet implementation remains stalled. They warned that failure to act within two weeks would disrupt peace in the health sector, potentially affecting healthcare services across Nigeria.

With the deadline set for October 12, 2026, citizens should anticipate possible disruptions to hospital services if negotiations fail. Will the Federal Government meet NARD's Oct 12 deadline to avert a strike, or should the public prepare contingency plans for accessing medical care during a potential work stoppage?
