Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) suspended planned indefinite strike after Federal Government reversed implementation of reviewed Professional Allowance Table (PAT) and renewed assurances on outstanding payments. Decision announced at emergency NEC meeting held virtually on Saturday.

FG has reversed earlier decision to halt PAT implementation, with changes expected to reflect in April salary and beyond. Government also renewed commitment to settling outstanding promotion and salary arrears, secured initial approval for 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), and indicated readiness to commence process for payment of 19 months' Professional Allowance arrears.

Despite progress, doctors expressed concern about continued delay in paying house officers' salaries. NARD demands sustained implementation of reviewed allowance structure, prompt payment of all outstanding arrears, expedited MRTF disbursement, and immediate commencement of process to clear 19-month arrears. Association will review progress again at May Ordinary General Meeting in Kano.
