On Sunday, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) released August 2026 flight performance data showing domestic airlines recorded 4,765 delayed flights and 36 cancellations, with Air Peace and United Nigeria topping the disruption list. Air Peace operated the most flights—1,864—and logged 1,330 delays, meaning 71.4% of its flights ran late. United Nigeria had the worst delay rate, with 943 of its 1,231 flights delayed (about 76.6%) and cancelled eight flights, the highest among carriers for the month.

The delays were largely short‑haul: 2,801 flights were held up 16 minutes to one hour, 1,322 for one to two hours, 407 for two to three hours, and 235 for three hours or longer. Air Peace accounted for 108 of those longest delays, followed by Enugu Air (46) and United Nigeria (41). In contrast, Umza Air posted the best record—only 52 delays from 403 flights and no cancellations—while Xe Jet recorded 40 delays from 127 flights.

For travelers, these figures signal a significant risk of schedule disruption when flying domestically, especially on the carriers with the highest delay rates. Knowing which airlines performed better can help you choose more reliable options. Will you factor airline punctuality into your booking decisions or push carriers to improve their on‑time performance?
