NCC, ALTON launch free 100MB daily data for educational platforms nationwide today
NCC and ALTON launch Zero Rated Data Access today, giving eligible learners 100MB free daily data for approved educational platforms - about 3GB monthly. The initiative, backed by nearly ₦200 billion in industry resources for its initial 5,000-learner pilot, aims to reduce digital learning costs and bridge educational access gaps nationwide. NCC's Dr. Aminu Maida says it supports President Tinubu's $1 trillion economy vision by developing digital skills, while ALTON's Engr. Gbenga Adebayo calls it a whole-industry commitment to Nigeria's future workforce. The program connects students to teachers and learning materials regardless of location, contributing to human capital development.
With this launch, learners can now access approved platforms for studying, research and online courses without data costs. The initiative scales from 100MB daily to potentially 36.5GB yearly per user, representing significant cumulative impact across millions of students. Industry stakeholders absorb connectivity costs as part of national development objectives, with OEMs and TowerCos providing devices and terminals.
Which approved educational platforms will you use first with your free 100MB daily data, and how might this change your access to learning resources?
