The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said on October 6, 2026 that no Ebola case has been confirmed in Nigeria, but it issued a warning after Kenya reported an imported case of the Bundibugyo virus, linked to an ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The NCDC has increased national surveillance and preparedness measures in collaboration with government authorities and partners.

The agency urged the public to practise regular hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand sanitiser, and to avoid contact with the blood or body fluids of anyone who is ill, as well as contact with the body of a person who has died from an unknown illness. Nigerians were also advised to refrain from handling sick or dead wild animals and to avoid eating raw or poorly cooked bushmeat.

Anyone developing symptoms suggestive of Ebola or feeling ill after a potential exposure should seek medical attention promptly at a recognised health facility. The NCDC stressed that continued vigilance and early reporting are critical to detect and manage any potential case quickly.
