NDC’s Buba Galadima admits Obi-Kwankwaso ticket faces challenges but remains hopeful
NDC chieftain Buba Galadima acknowledged on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, that efforts to build support for a Peter Obi‑Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket are facing challenges, but he insisted the obstacles are not insurmountable. Speaking from Abuja, Galadima urged Nigerians not to hold Obi responsible for the 1966 military coup, noting that Obi had no role in the events and was not even born at the time. He cited the pardon and return of former Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu after the civil war as proof that historical grievances can be overcome, and argued that Igbos also suffered losses during the 1966 crisis. Galadima referenced a conversation with a northern leader who refused to meet Dr D. N. Okechukwu, author of a book on the coup, because “Igbos killed our leaders,” and asked rhetorically how old Obi was in 1966 and whether it is fair to make him bear that burden. He stressed that reconciliation and constructive engagement are essential to overcoming Nigeria’s political and ethnic divisions.
