NDLEA arrests Lagos trader, seizes drugs worth billions across multiple states
NDLEA arrested 55‑year‑old Lagos trader Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu on July 23 for trying to export 3.30 kg of cocaine hidden in food cartons bound for the UK, after intercepting the consignment at Murtala Muhammed Airport. The arrest followed the detention of three cargo agents and a supplier, exposing a wider syndicate. In separate operations across Nigeria, NDLEA seized 2.80 kg of synthetic cannabis (Loud) from Surulere, 2.24 million Tramadol‑equivalent Tapentadol pills worth over ₦2.2 billion from India, 4,777 sachets of Canadian Loud weighing 2,388.5 kg (₦7.1 bn) hidden in vehicles at Apapa Seaport, and large quantities of cannabis and seeds in Edo State. Officers also recovered over 390 rounds of military‑grade ammunition from suspects in Katsina and on the Abuja‑Kaduna Expressway. These seizures, totalling billions of naira in street value, highlight the scale of narcotics and arms trafficking through Nigeria’s ports, airports and borders. NDLEA chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa urged sustained vigilance and public cooperation. Residents should report suspicious shipments or unusual cargo to NDLEA hotlines and avoid involvement in illicit trade.
