NDLEA intercepted large consignments of opioids concealed in building materials and arrested multiple suspects, including a 75-year-old man in Ebonyi State and four female drug dealers in nationwide operations.

In Taraba State on Saturday, June 6, operatives intercepted a truck transporting building materials from Onitsha, Anambra to Jalingo, uncovering 320,840 tramadol capsules, 600 pentazocine injections, 4,500 Rohypnol tablets, and 299 codeine bottles hidden beneath cargo.

Elsewhere, the agency arrested a 75-year-old suspect with 300g of skunk in Ebonyi; seized 8kg of skunk from a 32-year-old woman in Imo; and busted four suspects in Edo State with over 600g of various narcotics including skunk, methamphetamine, and Loud. Additional operations in Kano and Gombe yielded 40 blocks of skunk (38kg) and 15,000 tramadol capsules respectively.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa emphasized the agency's commitment to pursuing traffickers 'irrespective of their age, gender or methods of concealment' while continuing War Against Drug Abuse sensitization in schools nationwide.

With these drugs targeting youth and communities, what prevention measures should local authorities implement to protect vulnerable populations?
