NDLEA Cautions Nigerians on Accepting Consolidated Cargoes from Abroad
NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, warned Nigerians on Sunday not to accept consignments from relatives or friends abroad without knowing the full contents, after noticing a trend of illicit drugs hidden in consolidated cargoes. He said some Nigerians living abroad are allegedly sending such packages containing strains of cannabis known as Colorado and Loud, listing unsuspecting family members or friends as consignees. This puts recipients at risk of arrest and prosecution even if they are unaware of the drugs inside.
The warning matters because accepting unknown parcels can expose innocent people to criminal liability. Babafemi noted that several Nigerians have already been arrested in connection with such consignments, and the number of arrests continues to rise as NDLEA officers intensify daily enforcement operations. Anyone receiving a package from overseas could unknowingly become involved in drug trafficking syndicates, facing legal consequences that affect their freedom and future.
To stay safe, Nigerians should refuse to receive consignments on behalf of others abroad unless they are certain about the contents. If unsure, they should decline the package and report any suspicious items to NDLEA. The agency urges the public to heed this advice to avoid jail time and stay clear of inadvertent involvement in drug crimes.
