NDLEA intercepts 700kg+ drugs across 5 states nationwide, arrests 5 suspects
NDLEA intercepted 250g cocaine in a mortar bound for China and 500g in a backpack false bottom for Italy via Lagos logistics on July 31. In Rivers State, they arrested Ugo Gift Okonkwo (38) at Eagle Island, Port Harcourt on July 26 with cannabis, cocaine, meth, swinol, tramadol and codeine. Anambra officers seized 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup (3,960kg) from truck XK 131 BDG at DMGS Roundabout, Onitsha, arresting driver Chinedu Nwanze (40). Delta State recovered 331.84kg skunk from bus KUJ 26 DV on Kwale-Ughelli Expressway. Nasarawa arrested Joseph Nwaeke (64) with 68kg skunk and 29g meth at Asso Angwan Muazu, Karu on July 28. Zamfara intercepted Sani Umar (27) with 7,400 tramadol tablets (225mg) for bandits on Zaria-Gusau highway. NDLEA also ran WADA sensitization campaigns at Hausawa Special Primary School in Kano, Royal Crown School in Ibadan, Government Secondary School in Ibi, Taraba State, and commercial drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park in Ibadan. Chairman Marwa commended officers for sustaining supply and demand reduction efforts nationwide.
This sweep exposes extensive drug trafficking networks moving cocaine to Europe/Asia, bulk codeine syrup, and synthetic drugs to criminal groups like bandits. It demonstrates NDLEA's expanded operational reach beyond traditional hotspots into multiple states simultaneously.
