Nearly 1 in 5 Nigerian creatives loses over half work week to admin tasks
NECLive's State of Nigeria's Creative Economy 2026 report surveyed 377 creatives across eight sectors and found that 19.6% lose more than half their weekly working time to non‑creative administrative tasks, while 83% lose at least 10% and 53.6% lose over a quarter. Admin duties such as logistics, sourcing and chasing payments consume hours that could be spent on creative work, with 51% citing payment disputes as a major friction point. The report labels this an "administration tax" on the sector.
This admin burden directly limits productive output; the report estimates that recovering even half of the lost time could double creative output without new hires or funding. Nigeria's creative economy employs about 4.2 million people, yet the sector operates amid deeper infrastructure challenges. An estimated 90 million Nigerians lack electricity access, forcing reliance on costly generators or solar systems, and Lagos commuters lose 2.2 to six hours daily to traffic—roughly 30 hours weekly—further squeezing time for client meetings, equipment sourcing and income‑generating work.
