NECO 2026 SSCE results slated for first week of September, FG confirms
NECO has announced that the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results will be released by the first week of September 2026 or earlier, according to a Federal Ministry of Education statement issued on Wednesday. The announcement followed the successful conduct of the Computer Based Test (CBT) for the exam, which the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, praised for its smooth conduct and lack of technical disruptions. NECO Registrar Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi disclosed that 1,378,048 candidates registered for the 2026 SSCE, including over 700,000 female candidates.
The news matters to students awaiting results and parents planning next steps, as it clarifies when scores will be available for university admissions, scholarship applications, or job searches. It also confirms progress in the Federal Government's push to expand CBT nationwide, aiming to improve examination integrity and reduce malpractice.
Additionally, the Ministry suspended a proposed increase in registration fees for the 2027 WASSCE and NECO SSCE from N27,500 to N50,000 (an 82% rise) after public backlash, pending wider consultations. Candidates should monitor the NECO portal for result updates, while parents can note that the current fee structure remains unchanged for now.
