NELFUND announced on Thursday that it has disbursed a total of ₦1.5 billion to 6,129 students across three institutions for the 2025/2026 academic session. The beneficiary schools are Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology in Ekiti State, Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology in Omu-Ajose, Ogun State, and the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State.

A breakdown shows ₦1,360,920,800 went to BOUESTI covering 5,396 students in five tranches, ₦104,530,000 to Sikiru Adetona College for 680 students, and ₦36,485,000 to the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences for 53 students. Three institutions have confirmed receipt via acknowledgement letters seen by Channels Television.

Dr Bukola Makinde, Registrar of Sikiru Adetona College, said the funds have already been deposited into students' bank accounts, enabling "financial hitch-free academic progress." Provost Mabel Omobude of the Edo State College pledged full accountability, stating the money will be used strictly for educational purposes in line with global best practices. BOUESTI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Andrew Babatunde Omojola confirmed receipt of the full ₦1,360,920,800 and thanked the Federal Government and NELFUND's leadership for efficient delivery.

The disbursement aims to ease financial barriers for students pursuing education degrees and nursing training. Will this timely support improve graduation rates and reduce dropout among beneficiary students, or will administrative delays in future tranches affect its impact?
