Neymar is set to make his first appearance for Brazil in almost three years when he starts against Scotland on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The Santos forward missed Brazil’s opening World Cup qualifiers against Haiti and Morocco while recovering from a calf injury. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the call‑up after Brazil’s win over Haiti, saying Neymar will train individually on Thursday, rejoin the squad on Sunday and be available for the Scotland match.

Neymar, Brazil’s all‑time leading scorer with 79 international goals, last played for the Seleção in October 2023, when he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus against Uruguay. After surgery in 2025 and a successful recovery with Santos, he was named to Brazil’s final 26‑man World Cup squad earlier this year.

Reactions are mixed. Some critics question his inclusion given his injury history, while pundits such as Eagle Stars FC coach Isma’il Musa and Lagos‑based journalist Femi Fabunmi argue his experience, leadership and creativity can help Brazil’s World Cup push, especially for younger players.

The match against Scotland could be a turning point for Neymar’s international comeback and for Brazil’s campaign in the 2026 World Cup.
