The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a memo to all NPFL clubs warning referees against errors of judgment and urging fair officiating. Signed by Mohammed Ameenu of the NFF Refereeing Development Committee, the memo commends referees for improved performances in the six-week-old league but notes that wrong calls, including gross misrepresentation of the Laws of the Game, have been observed. Officials are urged to uphold equity, fairness and standard interpretation of the Laws of the Game 2026 as amended. The NFF insists that any referee who disregards these guidelines and brings the game into disrepute will be dismissed and handed over to security agencies for prosecution. This move aims to sustain the improved officiating seen so far in the NPFL, ensuring match outcomes reflect true competition and protecting the league's integrity for clubs, fans and stakeholders. Referees must now adhere strictly to the guidelines, while clubs and supporters can expect higher standards and clearer consequences for misconduct. The warning comes as the NPFL progresses through its early season, with the NFF emphasizing that maintaining fairness is essential for the league's credibility and growth.
