NGF chairman urges Tinubu to raise minimum wage to N100,000
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to increase Nigeria's national minimum wage to N100,000. The appeal was made on Friday in Lagos during a Sallah homage visit when governors led by Vice President Kashim Shettima met with President Tinubu at his residence. AbdulRazaq noted that many states are already paying close to N100,000 as wages and urged the Federal Government to begin discussions on establishing a new national minimum wage benchmark. 'Most of the states are paying almost 100,000 naira today and I urge your excellency, let's all have a discussion in moving the minimum wage to 100,000,' he said. With the current minimum wage at N30,000, this potential increase would more than triple the baseline wage for millions of Nigerian workers nationwide. Many workers have been struggling with rising costs of living since the removal of fuel subsidies last year. How will your household budget be affected if the minimum wage increases to N100,000? Will businesses pass increased labor costs to consumers through higher prices?
