FG and states launch National Nutrition Intervention Fund to roll out Nutrition 774 Initiative in all 774 local government areas, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara announced following Nigeria-Ethiopia nutrition exchange. The fund aims to incentivize state leadership, boost domestic investment in nutrition programs, and reward effective implementation of measures to combat malnutrition nationwide.

This commitment builds on the Nutrition Compact signed February 20, 2025 between federal government, states via NGF, and local governments through ALGON. It follows a three-day exchange in Ethiopia where VP Kashim Shettima's team studied Ethiopia's Seqota Declaration approach to nutrition delivery, with governors pledging to declare war on hunger through this nationwide nutrition emergency.

Federal agencies will begin with targeted pilot programs in two states selected for high stunting burden, NPHCDA CEO Muyi Aina said, focusing on evidence-based interventions with clear objectives and joint financing arrangements. Progress will be tracked rigorously through measurable indicators reported to the Vice President via National Council on Nutrition.

Health Minister Muhammad Pate emphasized that translating political commitments into practical action requires focused sectoral work, clear implementation roadmaps, and accountability mechanisms - lessons Nigeria aims to adapt from Ethiopia's success while tailoring to local contexts.
