Nigeria backs AU reforms for peace, security, and resource development
Nigeria endorsed institutional reforms at the AU summit in Addis Ababa, with Vice President Kashim Shettima advocating for stronger peace and security governance. Nigeria will host the Combined Maritime Task Force for Gulf of Guinea security and pledged full implementation of its agreement. The nation also welcomed Gabon and Guinea back to the AU after their political transitions and emphasized Africa's mineral resources should drive industrialization. Nigeria called for coordinated continental approaches to mineral extraction and food security initiatives, including support for smallholder farmers.
