Nigeria Endorses AU Reforms for Peace, Security, and Development
Nigeria has endorsed the African Union's proposed institutional reforms, focusing on strengthening peace and security governance, democratic institutions, and collaboration with international financial institutions and the private sector. Vice President Kashim Shettima presented the endorsement at the 39th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, representing President Bola Tinubu. The reforms aim to enhance domestic and regional resource mobilization for affordable development financing and reduce inequality through credible data systems, social protection, and inclusive industrial policies. Shettima emphasized the need for resilient institutions to address security challenges and promote democratic stability across Africa. The AU seeks to reposition itself as a more efficient, accountable, and development-driven entity amid calls for sustainable financing and coordinated continental action.
