Nigeria-EU sign historic science pact to boost African innovation
Nigeria and the European Union signed a landmark science and technology agreement in Abuja, ending a 20-year hiatus to position Nigeria as Africa's innovation hub. The pact establishes a dedicated EU-Nigeria Joint Science and Technical Cooperation Committee to ensure concrete outcomes beyond standard action plans. Minister Kingsley Udeh emphasized the agreement's significance in transforming Nigeria's tech sector, which already produces Africa's majority of $1B startups. The partnership aligns with Nigeria's Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to scale local ingenuity into industrial impact through structured support via Horizon Europe. Key focus areas include joint research projects, academic exchanges, and fostering more Nigerian tech giants across Africa.
