Nigeria's palm oil production reached 1.57 million tonnes in 2025, up from 1.28 million tonnes in 2020, according to the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC). This growth reflects Nigeria's ambition to reclaim global leadership in the sector. However, domestic consumption has risen to 2.61 million tonnes, creating a supply gap of over 1 million tonnes filled through imports costing $600 million annually. CPOPC and Nigerian officials are collaborating to boost production through improved technologies, smallholder support, and value chain development. The partnership aims to enhance food security and reduce import dependency.
