Nigeria’s pension assets fell to N30.70 trillion in June 2026, down N0.62 trillion from May’s N31.32 trillion, a 1.99% month‑on‑month decline. Despite the drop, the industry was 24.64% larger than the N24.63 trillion recorded in June 2025, having added roughly N6.08 trillion over the year.

The monthly slide was driven by losses in domestic equities (‑8.76% MoM) and modest declines in FGN securities (‑0.43% MoM), corporate debt and money‑market instruments. Conversely, alternative assets grew: corporate infrastructure bonds jumped 18.13% MoM, private equity rose 1.90% MoM, mutual funds increased 6.40% MoM, and cash holdings surged 34.18% MoM. Equity holdings remain the second‑largest asset class at 19.24% of total assets, while FGN securities still dominate at 56.69%.

For RSA holders, the short‑term dip reflects normal market volatility; the longer‑term upward trend shows the pension system is still accumulating wealth. Registrations rose slightly to 11.32 million contributors, a 0.41% monthly increase. Contributors should continue regular contributions, monitor their RSA statements, and consider voluntary top‑ups or diversified options where available, as short‑term fluctuations do not negate the overall growth trajectory.
