Nigeria secures 2028 ITTF Africa Championships hosting rights with 23-15 vote

Nigeria wins bid to host the 2028 ITTF Africa Championships and 2027 Africa Para Table Tennis Championships, defeating Tunisia 23 votes to 15 at the African Table Tennis Federation AGM in Morocco. NSC Director General Bukola Olopade calls it a "major milestone" under President Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda, highlighting the RHINSE initiative to shift Nigeria from consuming sports to producing sports events that create economic opportunities and attract global investment.

Olopade promises a world-class championship setting a benchmark for future African competitions. The dual hosting rights signal growing international confidence in Nigeria's capacity to deliver major sporting events. While no Nigerian host city is announced yet, the move positions the country as a sports destination with potential for infrastructure development and athlete exposure.

For Nigerian table tennis fans and athletes, this means home-ground advantage in two major continental championships within three years. Will this spark the sustained infrastructure investment and grassroots development Nigerian table tennis needs to compete globally?
