Nigeria startup funding jumps to $364M in August 2026, led by Moove's $250M round
Nigeria's startup ecosystem recorded a major rebound in August 2026 with 20 startups raising a combined $364.1 million in funding. This represents a surge from just $4.9 million raised by six startups in July 2026 and a substantial improvement from $20.1 million secured across three deals in August 2025.
The month's activity was driven by mega deals, growth-stage investments, venture rounds, debt financing, pre-seed transactions, and grant funding across sectors including logistics, fintech, deeptech, agriculture, healthcare, education and jobs placement. Moove's $250 million Series C round alone accounted for nearly 69% of all startup funding, with Jumia's $50 million and Yellow Card's $40 million bringing the trio's total to $340 million (93.4% of August's funding).
Beyond the headline deals, Terra Industries raised an additional $18 million to bring its seed round to $52 million for defense technology expansion. Agritech firm ThriveAgric secured $3.9 million in debt financing, while 12 startups each received $100,000 grants from Co-Creation Hub and Mastercard, totaling $1.2 million in grant funding.
This jump signals a major revival in startup funding activity and improving investor sentiment toward Nigeria's technology ecosystem despite persistent macroeconomic challenges. The increase from August 2025's $20.1 million demonstrates significant recovery within a year, reflecting broader diversification of investor interest across multiple sectors and growth stages.
Will you explore funding opportunities across venture debt, grants, or equity rounds for your startup, or consider how this renewed investor confidence might affect your career plans in Nigeria's tech sector?
